It is irksome, to be honest. I am doing this as a release, and to have something that my friends and family can see....

You can go password protected and that will only allow people who have a password (people you know) can access your blog. Or you can moderate your comments so that all comments have to be approved by you. As long as you are not password protected ANYONE can read your blog.
